Federal skilled workers:
The FSWC is prescribed as a class of people who meet all of the following criteria:
- Are skilled workers
- May become permanent residents on the basis of their ability to become economically established in Canada intend to reside in a province other than Quebec
Quebec skilled workers:
You can apply as a Quebec-selected skilled worker if you hold a Quebec Selection Certificate (Certificat de sélection du Québec) from the Government of Quebec submit a complete permanent residence application, including police certificates
Entrepreneurs and self-employed persons:
To immigrate as a self-employed person, you must:
- Have relevant experience
- Be willing and able to be self-employed in Canada
- Meet the program’s selection criteria and
- Meet medical, security and other conditions language skills
Canadian experience class:
The CEC is a permanent residence category for people with skilled work experience in Canada. It was developed for temporary foreign workers and foreign graduates with qualifying Canadian work experience.
Federal skilled trades class:
The FSTC is prescribed as a class of people who meet all of the following criteria:
- Are qualified in a skilled trade
- May become permanent residents on the basis of their ability to become economically established in Canada intend to reside in a province other than Quebec
Investors:
An investor is an foreign national who:
- Has business experience;
- Has a legally obtained net worth of at least $800,000;
- Indicates in writing to an officer that they intend to or have made an investment of CDN $400,000.
Personal net worth statement:
- The personal net worth statement includes both business and personal assets and liabilities of the applicant as well as those of the spouse or common-law partner.
Start-up business class:
Eligibility requirements for the Start-up Visa Program have a qualifying business. have a letter of support from a designated organization. meet the language requirements, and. have enough money to settle and live in Canada before you make money from your business.
Immigrant Investor Venture Capital class:
A foreigner who meets at least the following requirements is part of the “venture capital investor immigrant” category:
- He has a minimum net worth of $10,000,000 that he has legally acquired through business or investment activities.
- He meets the language requirement.
- He has a minimum net worth of $50,000,000 that he has legally acquired through business or investment activities, or
- He has a Canadian diploma obtained following the successful completion of a program requiring at least least one year of post-secondary education or an equivalent degree.

Provincial Nominee Program (PNP):
The Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) is designed to enable provinces and territories to support the immigration of people who:
- Have expressed an interest in settling in their province or territory the province or territory believes will be able to contribute to the economic development and prosperity of that province or territory and Canada
Atlantic Immigration Program (AIP):
The AIP is an economic program targeted to foreign nationals with job offers in the Atlantic region, who:
- Have received an endorsement by an Atlantic province
- Meet minimum education,
- Meet work experience
- Meet language proficiency requirements
Members of the family class:
This program allows the sponsorship of spouses, common-law partners, dependent children, children in the process of adoption, parents, grandparents or other foreign nationals. A sponsor must be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident or Status Indian who is at least 18 years of age resides in Canada (except in a specific circumstance, see Sponsors residing abroad)
Adoptions:
To sponsor a child from another country for adoption, you must:
- Be a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident (if you do not currently reside in Canada, you must do so when the adopted child becomes a permanent resident); live in Canada; and
- Be at least 18 years old.
Spouse or common-law partner in Canada class:
Spouses: those who are in a legally-recognized marriage. Proxy marriages are no longer recognized by Immigration Canada. Common-law partners: those who can demonstrate that they have shared a common place of residence and cohabited in a marriage-like relationship for at least 12 consecutive months. You can apply under the Spouse or Common-Law Partner in Canada class if:
- Your spouse or common-law partner cohabits (lives) with you in Canada.
- Your spouse or common-law partner must either have valid temporary residence status or be exempt from needing this status under a public policy that was set out in 2005
Humanitarian and compassionate consideration:
Foreign nationals who are inadmissible or who do not meet the requirements of the Act or Regulations may make a written request for consideration under subsection A25(1). There are some restrictions with respect to examination of applications for H&C consideration. The restrictions are explained in the following charts.
Permanent residence pathways for Hong Kong residents:
Hong Kong residents currently in Canada can apply for permanent residency for themselves and their families. There are 2 streams for which you may be eligible. You can apply for permanent residence under one of the following:
- Stream A: In-Canada graduates
- Stream B: Canadian work experience
This public policy will be in effect from June 1, 2021, to August 31, 2026.
Protected persons:
This category includes persons who had a well-founded fear of persecution for reasons of race, religion, nationality, membership in particular social group or political opinion (Geneva convention refugees). In Canada, the Immigration and Refugee Board of Canada (IRB) and IRCC decide who is a Protected Person. If the IRB determined you to be a person in need of protection or a Convention refugee or if you received a positive decision on your Pre-Removal Risk Assessment (PRRA) from IRCC, you are a Protected Person and may apply for permanent residence with this application.
You may also apply for permanent residence with this application if you are a member of the Protected Temporary Residents Class (PTRC). Protected Temporary Residents are individuals admitted to Canada on a temporary resident permit and who have been determined to be in urgent need of protection by a visa office.
